This summer, an online Medical Terminology course is being offered to Bay Port students. The course will give students the opportunity to earn a .5 credit in science by gaining experience and knowledge of the vocabulary used within the medical field. The exploration of the mechanics, meanings, and usage of medical vocabulary is an invaluable set of skills for anyone wishing to pursue a career within the medical/health sciences. Not only will these skills simplify and enhance a student’s understanding of advanced life science material at the high school and college level, it will give students an advantage in acquiring field experiences through job shadowing, volunteering, and gaining employment at medical/health organizations.

- Students will need to acquire the textbook for the course (directions on borrowing one from Bay Port will be forthcoming).
- Quick and Easy Medical Terminology—9th edition (Leonard)
- This is a spiral bound text with a lot of practice exercises and worksheets within each chapter. It is important that students who choose to check-out a book from Bay Port do NOT write in, tear out, or otherwise damage, any pages (including the cover) of the book to avoid having a book fine assessed. Anyone wishing to purchase their own copy of the text to be able to write in it and keep it can order a copy from Amazon here or by searching for a different vendor for the same text. ---Please note that if you choose to buy a used copy from an online vendor, the pages and activities inside may have been written on and/or filled in.
- Quick and Easy Medical Terminology—9th edition (Leonard)
- Students must login to their Schoology accounts to complete ALL the assignments, which will correspond to the chapters and various assignments within the textbook. Schoology account usernames must match each student’s name/account to ensure grades are properly recorded.
- Students are encouraged to work consistently through the assignments, throughout the time-frame of the course duration dates, to attain maximum retention of material and to ensure they complete all the assignments by the final deadline date (TBD).
- Any and all assignments not completed by the final deadline date and time will detract from each student’s grade and will affect their high school GPA.
- Students need to plan ahead to allow for family vacations, summer trips, and any other unexpected events by incorporating their own schedule of completion to allow plenty of extra completion time closer to the deadline date for the course.
- The course is primarily being set up for current 10th and 11th graders, however, current 9th graders may seek to enroll in the course if they have the above listed prerequisites and recommendations.
- Current 12th graders may also sign up with the understanding that they will most likely need to finish the course before leaving the Green Bay area for college/relocation to be able to return the textbook and/or MacBook. Once signed up, we will be able to provide you with continued access to Schoology and, if needed, provide you with the ability to check-out a school MacBook for the duration of the course. Your high school transcript will be updated to show that you have taken the course after completion.
